Deron Williams is another exception (also has a few All Star appearances with the 2 golds). Jrue has a way better rep than DWill though, which goes a long way.

Chemistry is more important when you don’t have overwhelming talent.
That’s why a bunch of average to above average NBA players can’t win the FIBA World Cup over teams with only 2-5 NBA players.
For a role player, young Dennis Rodman (like 89-91 Pistons Rodman, who somehow also led the league in FG percentage for a year).
Old Dennis Rodman doesn’t apply here since his attitude made him unplayable at times.
98 Bulls is probably up there.
Players like Herb Jones, Mikal Bridges, and Desmond Bane would have a much better shot at making the team than someone like Fox or Young.
This team is better than the World Cup team that lost multiple times and didn’t even medal last year. However, it’s not that much better than that team.
I would say they probably would be very slight favorites but not close to being locks, seeing last year’s World Cup team results.
Talent wise I agree with you. I guess from a majors perspective, I can see him possibly catching him in major wins.
But I do agree that because his competition might not be viewed as strong, the perception could be even if he wins 20+ majors, he won’t be as highly ranked in the all time lost.
He does have an injury problem though. Hope that doesn’t hurt him long term. I remember Martina Hingis was supposed to be the GOAT women’s player and she started off really strong but then injuries pretty much ruined her career.
This and the posts about 3x3 really show me people don’t know much about how hard it is to be an elite athlete in a sport.
The best tennis singles players in the world can’t even win in tennis doubles, and you think basketball players can win in a completely separate sport in handball, which is a way bigger difference than tennis singles and doubles.
Noah Lyles is won the 100m and probably the 200m barring an upset, but if he tried the 110m hurdles or the 400m, he wouldn’t even make the Olympics.
In order to do something like this, you would already have had to be an incredible talent in that other sport (handball) in an early age, but no NBA player was. Chase Budinger is playing beach volleyball, but he was already the best volleyball player in HS.
He was already the GOAT. The only one who can catch him is Alcaraz, who is ahead of him at the same age but still obviously has like 15 more years to go.
Why doesn’t he get outworked by Daniel Theis in the NBA?
As a Warriors fan, Kerr definitely did a terrible job coaching last year at the FIBA World Cup.
He played JJJ at the 5 a lot, and that was just terrible coaching. JJJ can’t even play the 5 at the NBA so how was he going to play the 5 in FIBA, where it’s even more physical and there’s more traditional Cs. Not surprisingly, the US was terrible at rebounding and opposing Cs had huge games.
Kolek was the best passer in college basketball last season so it should make sense he’s the one of the best passers in the summer league.
I considered him to be pretty NBA ready and he should be like a guy you can spot play rotation mins pretty early on in his career.
Biggest thing will be his catch and shoot 3 point ability. His defense will never be great but that’s not a huge deal against backup guards.
Pretty sure from last year, Jordan Poole broke a guys ankles, stared him down, and then got blocked.
