Records as Team USA Head Coach (Official Games)

Coach K: 75 Wins, 1 lost

Coach Pop: 45 Wins, 13 lost

Coach Kerr: 26 Wins, 9 lost

-

Obviously, nba wise. coaches Pop and Kerr are better. Since Coach K only coach in US Ncaa for Duke

But based on international tourneys like Fiba and Olympics.

Coach K have a mind breaking 75 wins and 1 lose record.

While coach Pop and coach Kerr have way more losses, with way less wins. With less number of games.

Team USA doesnt lack talent.

But it is the coaches job to manage egos, develop chemistry, and execute team plays.

Is Coach K a better coach in terms of fiba/olympics competition?

Do you think Coach K can manage egos better, and got more respect from superstars?

If yes, why?

If no, what do you think is the reason from the win loss record gap?

The record speaks for itself. People can say whatever they want about improved international competition, roster composition, coaching gaps between NBA/college, etc. but 75-1 is an insane record no matter how you spin it. You’d really have to stretch to defend Pop or Kerr’s records over his.

Krzyzewski always ran short rotations at Duke while managing talented players with big egos, which may have made him more comfortable doing the same thing in the Olympics, even with NBA stars.

As a Warriors fan, Kerr definitely did a terrible job coaching last year at the FIBA World Cup.

He played JJJ at the 5 a lot, and that was just terrible coaching. JJJ can’t even play the 5 at the NBA so how was he going to play the 5 in FIBA, where it’s even more physical and there’s more traditional Cs. Not surprisingly, the US was terrible at rebounding and opposing Cs had huge games.

People in here severely underrating how much of Coach K’s reputation helped him reel in Kobe and Melo. This is a man who probably personally recruited a good percentage of his national teams when they were teenagers.

The amount of respect that man gets is pretty high and if you don’t get with the program he’ll tell you to GTFO in front of everyone which I doubt he needed to do.
