Danny Green, Shane Battier, Robert Horry, Convington and Avery Bradley are some of my favorites playing this role. I know OG, Derrick White are put in this category but personally I think they do a lot more than just 3&d. The question is are the number of players who specifically play only 3&d becoming less significant in current version of the game?

As the league improves, those guys will have to be able to put the ball on the floor a lot. 3&D is still important, but it’s quickly becoming not enough

No, they just have to do more besides shoot spot up 3s and guard on the ball. Specialists aren’t viable in this era anymore.

Guys like Caruso, Jrue, and D. White can guard the best creator but they’re also elite team defenders/rim protectors for their position.

Guys like Mikal, KCP, and OG can make C-&-S 3s but they can also attack close-outs, make pull-ups, and cut off the ball.

The elite 3d players have always had more to them, despite their primary focus/strength being obviously 3&D.

Eric Gordon for example on Houston was obviously there to chuck deep 3’s and play defense, but he was more than capable of putting the ball on the floor and slash to the rim on occasion. Basically, any time Harden was out for a game, Gordon flashed for like 30+ points show casing his complete offensive skillset instead of simply playing a cog in the Harden wheel.

It was until Ryan Dunn arrived and changed the game.

Versatility offensively and defensively is the trend right now. Generating 3’s are important but teams want to get those looks off of multiple paint touches and rotating the defense. It’s about filling the floor with players who are threats not only to shoot but to put the ball on the floor, draw help defenders and make a pass to find the next shooter

Well, the current era is all about shooting 3s and defense will always be apart of the game of basketball like offense will be, so, no. The answer is no.

No, they’re still important. As important as ever really. Sure you have guys like White and Bridges, but they are borderline stars. You have to think more role player types. They have to be able to play defense and hit 3s. Look at the Celtics bench this past season. Horford, Hauser, and PP (to an extent) can all defend and they are all basically knock-down 3 point shooters. Everybody wants to be the Celtics.
