I don’t understand why we compare Magic and Steph for the title of “best PG”. They are two fundamentally different players at that position. Magic Johnson was a game manager who through his ridiculous playmaking, made his teammates better. Steph Curry doesn’t really play like a game manager. He plays more like a shooting guard if anything.
I don’t think it was the lights getting bright. Pretty sure it was their legs getting tired from trying to keep up with the US’s talent for 40 minutes. 3 point shooting and fatigue typically don’t go hand in hand
There is wrong on both sides
The Jokic fanatics are definitely downplaying the impact of his teammates. Guys like Bogdanovic, Abramovich and other Serbs played their absolute hearts out on the defensive end and were hitting incredibly tough shots all game long. It was a team effort. Jokic also didn’t have his best scoring the ball, going 0/6 from the 3 point line.
However, Jokic haters are taking it too far and trying to act as if Jokic was getting carried. If you pay attention the tape, pretty much every shot the Serbians generated was through Jokic’s gravity. He was also great defensively for a large majority of that game until he picked up his 4th foul.
I think the better question to ask is if team USA finds themselves in a close game in the 4th quarter, would you have Steph Curry in the closing lineup?
I would argue no. The only really weak spot in the team USA’s defense is Steph at the POA and Embiid’s drop coverage. And I don’t think the US utilizes Steph enough for him to outproduce his defensive defenses with his gravity. They might be better off having White in there instead since he is a better fit for the Lebron Ball that USA defaults to in close games. Holiday/White/Lebron/KD/AD would be my closing lineup
Hopefully they can get back to the conference finals next year. We need Giannis in another deep playoff run.
You’re not considering all the extra curricular activities that come with being an NBA player thought. All the travelling and being away from your family half the year, all the media interviews where they repeat the sane points 95% of the time, the training and diet to maintain NBA-level fitness. Doing that for a single season is a grind, let alone having the mental capacity to do that for 22 years at the highest level.
