In terms of playstyle, Reggie Miller and Jimmy Butler could not be further apart. But interestingly, if you look at their career trajectories, they share a lot of similarities
-
Neither guys were considered your traditional superstars. They were never really in MVP conversations or had a huge list of accolades(Reggie Miller is only a 3x ALL NBA team member. Butler is 5x all NBA member.)
-
Neither guy really put up monstrous regular season numbers. But they both have a knack for ramping up their production in the playoffs
-
Both guys have big personalities, a natural charisma and leadership qualities to them that helped elevate their teammates to great heights. They were also extremely competitive and notorious trash talkers.
-
Both guys are known for being extremely clutch and have several iconic moments in the playoffs. At the same time, this overshadows the fact that both guys have a lot of stinkers too and their clutch reputation tends to overstate how clutch they really are in big games.
Why is everyone obsessed with comparisons and posting on Reddit?
Reggie was a bigger star. Love him or hate him, he has a big personality. Especially when he was younger. He was always loud and brash in everything he did. Butler, not as much
This is so funny because watching the Starting 5 doc I was thinking the same thing. Jimmy is in that same class of player.
Jimmy has a broader impact. He is a two way player and carried the Heat to some upsets. Reggie had big moments (against NY in 95, game winner in 98) and I remember 94 ECF being his best carry job that fell just short. I have to disagree, Jimmy has done more. Trae reminds me more of Reggie who had the better team built around him.
How many times did Reggie demand to be traded because he wasn’t good enough to get to the postseason himself?
JI-MMY JI-MMY JI-MMY JI-MMY
Reggie Miller was one of my favorite players at the time. I’m not a fan of Jimmy, granted him being in Minnesota and leaving the way he did helped that.
Nah but Anthony Edwards is this generations Jimmy Butler
Don’t you dare put that evil on our boy.
No lol. I mean, they do have those things in common but those are so specific, you could make an infinite amount of comparisons if you’re honing in on things like that. I don’t think non traditional super star who never put up monstrous stats and had a big personality is the first thing that comes to mind when people think of Reggie miller lol.
I mean, they are both Michael Jordan’s sons
I like this thought experiment. Jimmy Butler, welcome to your Kodak moment.
If Jimmy was tied to one franchise I could see it.
Yeah it would have been dame if he didn’t leave Portland
Jokic is, known for choking against 50 win teams
What does Jokic have to do with any of this? Jokic is pretty damn consistent, his teammates are the ones who aren’t.
As much as I love Reggie Miller Butler is a better and much more complete overall player imo.
They’re similar in the way they rise in the playoffs I think that’s kinda where the on court comparison stops tho
