I think it’s almost unanimous that Steph is the greatest shooter of all time and Magic is the greatest passer of all time. My question is, who has a wider gap between them and #2 + the rest of the pack?

Also, stats are important, but not the end all be all here. For instance, Klay might actually be a slightly better catch-and-shoot 3pt maker than Steph, but Steph is so far and away better at creating his own shot it’s why he is clearly the best shooter of all time. And Magic may not hold the assist record, but you would be hard-pressed by most fans and players if you said Stockton had a similar passing ability to Magic.

Steph’s shooting and Vince’s dunking are the only 2 things I can think of that are clearly above all others.

Joker is better passer overall then Magic.

    • Magic is better passer in transition.
    • Joker is better passer in half court.

So yeah, gap in shooting is higher between Steph and whoever.

Well, since Rajon Rondo is the best passer and Dame Lillard is the best shooter, I don’t know what you mean by this? The media narrative and what’s actually true aren’t the same. Rajon Rondo is the best point guard of all time, without question or debate. Dame and Steph can be debated, but when you compare the supporting cast each has had, it becomes clear that Steph wouldn’t have anywhere near the success he has had with the lackluster support Dame has been surrounded by.

The entire NBA changed its style of play because of Steph’s 3 point shot. The same cannot be said for Magic’s passing ability.

Stockton isn’t a great comparison. Career totals are not a great comparison

I don’t even think Magic is the best passer. Nash is. Nobody except for truly dedicated haters would ever tell you that Steph isn’t the best shooter, so Steph wins

I wouldn’t say Magic is the greatest passer. He is the GOAT fast break passer but I think Bird and LeBron were better in the half court and Stockton was better off the pnr.

No one is close to Steph really especially given the 3. I’d probably say Ray Allen is second? Bird might have been in this era but we’ll never know. He didn’t take many threes and the rules were different. Who else? Dame, Klay, or Reggie? Not close. Chris Jackson? Pistol Pete? Nah.

No one is in Steph’s class especially in the clutch where really only Larry Legend can kind of compete. Even then, that Skyfucker is just special.

Bigger gap between steph - seen plenty of amazing passers but to shoot with that accuracy from that far away for so long steph is the one

I’m not even sure Magic is the best passer and he’s definitely not in a tier to himself.

LeBron is way closer to Magic for passing ability, and arguably is at the same level or better. Nobody is in the conversation over Steph for shooting.

      Thats because of recency bias.

Of course the gap between Steph and the next best shooter is huge, not like magic and the best passer.

But because Magic had cemented his legacy long enough that people got 30 years to study his game. Every passer in the NBA learn the most from Magic.

Steph isn’t even retired yet, hell you can argue he’s still in his prime. who knows in 20 years from now half-court shot is probably gonna be a normal thing? THEN we can have the conversation.

But when Magic still playing on his prime, no one touch how he move the ball. Not even close.

        But that’s simply not true.

Bird was an incredible passer, Pistol Pete, Zeke…

Is Magic really a better passer than Jokic and LeBron?
