Because I know people are gonna run with the Tatum is obsessed with Kobe jokes, I think it’s a good time to reply with this Booker comment about Kobe.

“We both love him a lot. The thing about that, l’ll elaborate on that. I see (Tatum) getting hate just representing Kobe and being inspired by him. But Kobe always said his one job is to inspire the next generation - that’s what he’s done for us.”

“He is gonna live forever in this game and not even just in basketball. Just his approach to life and how he’s changed and shaped so many people. I think it’s foolish for people to give hate to somebody like me or Jayson representing one of our idols.”

I just posted the same thing before seeing your comment. I’ll keep mine up so the haters can see it twice.

The more docs and behind the scenes clips you see of nba players, the more you realise that they have family members who either played professional basketball for a living, coached professional basketball for a living or were working in an nba FO or something.

They’re obviously genetically gifted but you find out that most have a contact that will take them to the next level. I guess that life and that’s how things work but I find it quite interesting.

Tatum for example has a Dad who played pro ball, his Godfather is Larry Hughes and his cousin is Tyronn Lue.

Like him or dislike him, nobody can argue against this guy being on the right path. He’s an NBA champion and already has 2x gold medals at 19. And now is on a Netflix show. He’s absolutely winning in loose that’s for sure

Also on the Starting 5 on the topic of Tatum criticism:

    Interviewer:

It seems to me that Jayson has to deal with unfair criticism-

    Joe Mazzulla:

    -Gets to deal with.

    Interviewer:

    Yeah.

    Joe’s Response:

He gets to deal with it. It’s the ultimate compliment. You know, and that’s what we talked about. Like, this is what you asked for. You asked to be one of the best players in the NBA on the best team in the NBA, with an opportunity, uh you know to be an icon for the league for a long, long time. This is what you asked for.

There are basketball things he needs to work on to take his game to the next level, but when people criticize him for the absolute dumbest shit, (i.e. liking Kobe Bryant or being a cornball), it’s a good mentality to have.

People aren’t talking about this sort of stuff if he wasn’t one of the top like 8 players in the NBA.

Director asks JT about Kobe, they put it in the documentary. This wasn’t Tatum’s direction to start his segment with this, this is how the producer and director wanted to start his segment, knowing it would create drama
