Wemby already has a Roy, is a dpoy candidate, and is a future mvp candidate. if he wins mip this year he might be the first player to do it at some point. The only thing that might be out of reach is an Olympic gold, which I dont think anyone would hold against him. However, if he accomplishes that too, he has the trajectory of an all time great. Fun to think about, although nothing wrong with not reaching those heights also

He might win MIP, but I will die on a hill saying it’s dumb when obvious high end talent wins that award.

Hmm if a non-obvious talent, second round pick won MVP their rookie year, would they deserve MIP?

I’m not making a point here btw I’m just spitballing

No, because there’s nothing on an NBA court to compare to.

Why?? It’s the most improved player award, not the most unexpectedly improved player award.

It’s become a dumb award because a precedent was set that it was the “guy who went from third string to averaging 16 ppg on 50 TS% cos half his team got traded/injured” award.

Just like the Sixth Man of the Year award is just the “mediocre efficiency bench chucker of the year” award and the Coach of the Year is the “coach of the team that beat its over/under by the most regardless of how much coaching was involved” award

Wemby may run in to the issue of being too good that voters will not give him MIP. We’ve seen this happen in the past where the arguably most improved player is also an MVP candidate, so they become unofficially ineligible for MIP.

    Recent examples being:

    • Luka Doncic in 2019-20,
    • SGA in 2022-23

Idk why could he not win olympic gold? They project to have a decent squad for the next olympics and big name US players will be gone. Obviously new ones will rise but I wouldn’t say its impossible.

He will never win MIP because he pretty much was a top 10 player as a rookie. You can’t improve too much from that point. The rest are in play

Given the recent history of MIP, you can’t be surprised if Wemby gets at least some MIP votes.

He was definitely not a top 10 player last year, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s a top 10 player this year.

If Wemby dosent win mvp and raises his avg to about 30pts per game add a extra block and few more rebounds and then I don’t see why he’s not a favorite for most improved player

Sixth man he probably will never be in position to win. MIP is also an unlikely one. Personally, I think he’s already too good to qualify for MIP but they’ve given it to Morant recently who had just won ROY so who knows. Everything else is a possibility if not probability.

He won’t win MIP his expectations are too high. Usually they give this to the guy that makes a huge statistical leap or someone who exceeds expectations.
