Wemby already has a Roy, is a dpoy candidate, and is a future mvp candidate. if he wins mip this year he might be the first player to do it at some point. The only thing that might be out of reach is an Olympic gold, which I dont think anyone would hold against him. However, if he accomplishes that too, he has the trajectory of an all time great. Fun to think about, although nothing wrong with not reaching those heights also

He might win MIP, but I will die on a hill saying it’s dumb when obvious high end talent wins that award.

Hmm if a non-obvious talent, second round pick won MVP their rookie year, would they deserve MIP?

I’m not making a point here btw I’m just spitballing

No, because there’s nothing on an NBA court to compare to.

Why?? It’s the most improved player award, not the most unexpectedly improved player award.

It’s become a dumb award because a precedent was set that it was the “guy who went from third string to averaging 16 ppg on 50 TS% cos half his team got traded/injured” award.

Just like the Sixth Man of the Year award is just the “mediocre efficiency bench chucker of the year” award and the Coach of the Year is the “coach of the team that beat its over/under by the most regardless of how much coaching was involved” award
