Wait, are these the people who are refusing to review the evidence that shows that her appeal was indeed called at 46 seconds, and not 4 seconds late as they had previously stated??

This is all alleged. We aren’t privy to much, and definitely not this level of detail. It’s all speculation. The CAS had access to video, audio, and official times from the official OMEGA clock. Everything else is conjecture.

I wouldn’t really call it alleged, the CAS could have, and probably would have, said the evidence is incorrect to be done with it; but they haven’t.

Can someone explain to me what all this mess is about? Somehow, it is very hard for me to understand what’s going on

They took away a medal from Jordan Chiles for no reason at all. That’s what’s happened. Trust me that’s the conclusion you’ll come to.

I’m also not well versed but something like this happened :

Someone got 3rd prize in this competition, Jordan chiles who performed last - her team felt that her scoring was not satisfactory so they appealed, by then they had given medals but after a successful challenge or appeal it was taken from that athlete and given to Jordan. After that some other country provided some evidence and claimed that as th3 last participant she had only 1 minute to appeal/challenge but instead took 4s longer than given time so they overturned that appeal/challenge and gave to another athlete (not the one feom whom it was first taken afaik).

Now us got video proof that they challenge well within time frame but the committee is not accepting even seeing this proof.

No medals had yet been awarded. The Romanians prematurely celebrated even though it was broadcast that Jordan’s score was under review. The first time the official standings were set, Jordan was bronze position.

So, as you can see from all of the replies you’ve gotten, it’s absurdly complicated and hard for anyone to understand! As someone who has very closely followed this sport for years, I’m also finding it hard to keep track of all this mess.

They’re not refusing to look at the evidence. They’re refusing to try the case again. They have so many Olympic cases to review, if they make an exception to try the same case again they have to make an exception for others too.

I mean, even in common justice with people’s freedom in the game, you’ll always have a pretty low limit to how many appeals can happen, even with egregious errors.

They’ve had to rule on other Olympic related cases too. This isn’t the only case they’ve been working on this week

Either way why would they hear an appeal on a case they already decided? People dont try the same case again in the same court, they appeal to a higher court (in this case that’s the Swiss Supreme Court).

Also, it’s not like this is a six month affair. We’re like two weeks out and it’s already happened once.

46, not 64 seconds? Someone on the review panel pulled an “Oopsie” and switch the numbers.

      Pretty much.

To be fair Romania had video evidence that showed the appeal was 84 seconds late, but they rejected that too and defered to official clock that says 64 seconds.

I doubt any video evicence would be allowed, they will always defer to the official clock.

I just want to know why noone can actually see the official clock in real time. The coaches and judges didn’t know what the actual time was. That HAS to change. They HAVE to have a visible countdown clock from now on as well as some sort of buzz in system so that the time of the inquiry request is clocked in. The coach only having a minute to decide to put in an inquiry but, then have to navigate around the podium, the cameras, other personnel there etc, is ridiculous.
