Let’s stop for a moment posts for 2028 USA team for a second. It is being posted like every hour. Lmao

Let’s predict other countries instead.

So, for 2028 olympics, my hot take is France will be the second best team afte USA. (Yes, I think France will surpass serbia in 2028).

Wemby will be like 24-25 ish yrs old. Near his prime. (Pretty much like Luka’s age in the last recent seasons).

Then, you still have young rookies now (sarr, risacher) and future french nba draftee prospects next draft. They will be all in their early 20s come 2028.

Then, I will give Serbia 3rd place. Joker will be 33 yrs old. So, he is still in the latter part of his prime.

4th will be Germany with their chemistry and, their young core will continue to improve

5th is maybe Canada since they are the only country besides USA that can field like 9-10 nba players. (They lack quality big man, and team chemistry though)

So, I will have

1.USA

2.France

3.Serbia

4.Germany

5.Canada

How about you?

Do you think France will be the second best in 2028 olympic basketball?

I think Edey will thrive in FIBA ball and Canada will actually take that next step

I’m taking the field in ‘28. Three generational superstars who eked out a gold for us won’t be there. That’s too much to overcome. And the world keeps improving.

agreed. I’m having a really hard time thinking of what transcendent (or minimum MVP level talent) the 2028 USA Team will possess. Projecting the roster, you’re looking at these guys:

Ant Edwards, Tatum, Zion, Hali, Brunson, Ja, Paolo, Chet, Bam (31), Jaylen Brown, Flagg, (wildcard name)

Who from that collection of names can become a Kobe, LeBron, Steph, KD, or shit even Carmelo for us? I think Team USA needs to find a better coach that can come in from day one and define roles and put a system in place that these international teams do so much better than us.

That’s not really a hot take, I mean barring injury Wemby will be a perennial Top 5 player by then.

If Edey isn’t good they are fucked in 4 years, they just don’t have the big man talent really

yeah but I think even Edey is not good, they can still play him, as long as Edey is fit for the role, just there to defend and rebound for them

isn’t edey too slow to defend in the perimeter? Genuine question as I haven’t really watched him outside of highlights but thats the perception im getting

well yeah that is true but in the olympics you can use him as rim protector and a rebounder, not really in there to score, since Canada had so many players that can score the ball already

We have some guys coming like Propser who are suited to a FIBA 4-5 role too.  Edey worked pretty hard on his feet and fitness to be a top defender in general.  If he keeps that up he will be a good player.  Difficulty with him is more on offense because you basically have to run through him or he just takes space away from drives and cutters.

We’ll have better scorers in 28 with Mathurin and Sharpe added in.  Nembhard will be that much more mature as a player.

The Canadian development program seems to be going from strength to strength too. All the talk is obviously about the increased popularity in Europe, but Canada is much further along the road as a percentage of populous

If Zach Edey is legit Canada will have their biggest issue solved. Also don’t bring Jamal Murray

LeBron, Steph and KD carried the USA. Without Steph you wouldn’t have beaten Serbia.

Who is going to carry team USA in 2028? I wouldn’t call the favourites for the gold in four years time.

I think they’ll definitely be less of a favorite than they were this year but given the US is always going to have such incredible depth vs. others I still think they’ll be the favorites in 2028 even if France and Serbia etc. will be definite contenders.

Serbia has Nikola Topic as a lottery pick from this year (well regarded in Serbia and has a media hype that I haven’t seen in 10 years), Petrusev who will be 28 year old, Jovic who will be 25 and there is probably going to be some rando Serbian sniper from Euroleague that no one figures out yet. I also hope Pokusevski figures out his career soon.
