The Top 5 Centers for Next season are kinda set: Joker, Embiid, AD, Bam, and Wemby
But who is 6th? Is it Sabonis since he just won back to back all nba selection?
Let’s talk about Domantas Sabonis.
Is he really the next best Center after the 5 centers above?
For his opposition, he have to compete against the likes of Kristaps, KAT, Chet, etc.
Do you think he deserved to be consitently put above KAT/Kristaps?.
Or you think his lack of defense should tank him.
And he is actually a worse player than KAT or Kristaps? Especially in the offensive end.
Or even Gobert. Do you think his Offense is more impotant and valuable than Gobert defense?
Remember, Sabonis is a almost a triple doube machine recently. But does that make him a better player?
What do you think?
Legend
Overrated - You think he is worse than KAT/Kristaps
Properly Rated - You think he same level or slightly better than Kristaps/KAT
Underrated - You think he is way better than Kristaps/KAT
Good but not dominant scorer who is very dependent on the match up, he’s a GREAT play finisher, but his post game just doesn’t work at all vs guys who can match his strenght
Gets a crazy amount of his assists on basic handoffs, still a very good passer but no where near the elite passer that some of his assists numbers seem to indicate
Very good rebounder but again, I am supposed to believe he’s some sort of insane rebounder after getting ABUSED by Kevon Looney on the boards a year ago
Has never been good in the playoffs wether it’s as a role player or a star
Funnily enough his defense is not THAT bad, but still he’s a center that can neither switch nor protect the rim, that puts a hard ceiling on a team’s defense that even a well below average guard wouldn’t
I wish Sabonis the best but you’re exactly right - you have a hard ceiling on your team if your center is a poor defender. Sabonis has continued to improve on offense but you have to be Jokic essentially to have it cancel out (and even then, Jokic is a better defender).
I think in order to maximize Sabonis’ talents you need a rim-protecting stretch 4 - so essentially you need to pair him with Jaren Jackson Jr and that’s just not happening.
My unpopular take is that while both teams benefited from the Hali/Sabonis trade, the Pacers were the clear winners. It’s a lot easier to hide a guard on D than it is a center.
“My unpopular take is that while both teams benefited from the Hali/Sabonis trade” even if they had to trade Haliburton because they think Fox is better (which can still be defended) the talent downgrade is still huge for me, Haliburton is younger and Sabonis will never be at the level he showed last year before his injury
Even if u think hali is clearly better than fox. And wanna trade fox for sabonis thats still a ginormous talent gap between both guards compared to him. The answer was just not to trade either of them for him
The answer was to trade either one of them for a better player then Sabonis and if that player wasnt available just wait
Basically yea
Sums up my views on him but I feel this is unpopular (and a bit harsh maybe).
My biggest gripe with his game is his post play. His go to move is to elbow someone real hard in the chest (yes i"m exagerating but sometimes he really does just that) and that doesn’t feel like a basketball move.
Yeah he’s almost perfectly constituted as the type of player who is better in the regular season than the playoffs – a big who has ball skills but isn’t elite at any one thing.
He is an elite rebounder only part of his game I won’t disrespect tho
