Obviously it was very convenient this time but now in LA, I fear hours are going to be a whole different story for the EU. Are we talking about middle of the night live games? I remember in Tokyo games started at 5 or 6 am which I guess was reasonable.

It means you’ll still be able to see about the same amount of the Olympics, if you work a normal 9-5/8-4.

In LA, the competitions would start late afternoon for us and last deep into the night/early morning. So you’ll catch the first half of the broadcast instead of the second half.

LA is roughly 17 hours behind Brisbane time. So as an example if the days go from 9am-9pm in LA, it will be 2am-2pm the next day in Brisbane

Yes definitely looking forward to 2032 - hopefully I’ll be able to catch events in person!

Obviously, Games in our own timezone are the best, but I prefer the Americas to Asia/Oceania. LA will probably have events start at something like 8am PDT which is 5pm CEST and then run all through the European night until something like 6 or 7am. In Tokyo, we had events start at 1am CEST and then go into the early afternoon. Cool, if you can take the day off or are in school. Sucks, if you have to work. For LA, I can watch the whole evening and then get a quick update/highlights in the morning. For Asia, it always feels like you are a day behind, watching highlights from 17 hours ago at 8pm and not getting any live sport in the evening.

I disagree, Tokyo was way better as I could sleep through the morning sessions which usually are just qualifiers or heats and then watch the important stuff at work in the morning. There were only a few times I had to stay awake or wake up early to see something I really wanted to see.

In LA all the important stuff will happen in the middle of the night, which means I will basically not sleep for 2 weeks or fall asleep at work.

Events went from 8AM til 11PM in France, meaning 5PM til 8AM in LA. Prime time is still served while replays will carry the rest of the events. Some of the surfing events ended at 4AM for us degens. It should be fine, but half of the live events will definitely be captured on VOD for us.

oh bummer, so even if I go to bed at 12am that means 8 hours of live events gone.

9PM West Coast time is midnight East Coast time. I suspect they’ll run the primetime events until 8PM so it can end by the traditional 11PM news broadcasts on the East Coast.

I’m no expert in LA, but wouldn’t the weather be too hot in afternoons to have games happening at these hours (say from 2pm to 5pm) ?

LA weather will probably be the most ideal for the Olympics. There may be days that get hot but it won’t be unbearable. Plus the athletes village will have A/C.
