Would Basketball in the US be better If they switched to a system and culture like Europe?

For example like Player development:

Would It be better for Players to play for Academies instead of High Schools and AAU Clubs?

Another Example: Should there be a league system with multiple divisions that involves regulation and delegation?

Like NBA would be 1st tier

G-League could be 2nd tier

TBL could be 3rd tier

Then there would be smaller national leagues and regional leagues

They’ve won the Olympics 8 out of the last 9 tries with NBA players.

What Men’s Team Sport can claim something like that? And this isn’t some stupid little sport, the NBA is one of the biggest sporting leagues in the world, its players are some of the richest and well known athletes globally outside of Soccer, and it’s a well contested sport by affluent nations. Yao Ming, for instance, is arguably China’s most famous athlete ever.

The same system, that has the same 8 teams winning everything?

Bayern Munich have been champions of the Bundesliga the past 11/12 seasons. Soccer can keep that nonsense.

If the NBA had a system like European soccer, Balmer would just outbid everyone and have the best team… The way the NBA is leads to actual parity, as opposed to super rich people getting their way

The way ownership and money works in the NBA would make this impossible. There is no money in the G league so demoting a team to the G league would mean the ownership losing billions.

NBA team owners have no reason to take on the costs associated with developing youth in organized programs. They don’t have to.

Basketball globally might be better, but the reason basketball in the US is so great is because all the money is in the US. Start messing around with pro-rel, and you risk a lot of the income that keeps the top players in the NBA. pro-rel is great for building local interest, it’s not good for keeping money in the league.

Players in the US would be better if they played more street ball instead of AAU. You cannot just hoop anymore if you are a kid you need to play for a system or a coach. Europe it is easier for kids to kind a playground with a basketball court because they build their cities for people and not cars and it is much safer. If you look at recent drafts more straight hoopers have come out of Europe than the US.
