I think it’s almost unanimous that Steph is the greatest shooter of all time and Magic is the greatest passer of all time. My question is, who has a wider gap between them and #2 + the rest of the pack?

Also, stats are important, but not the end all be all here. For instance, Klay might actually be a slightly better catch-and-shoot 3pt maker than Steph, but Steph is so far and away better at creating his own shot it’s why he is clearly the best shooter of all time. And Magic may not hold the assist record, but you would be hard-pressed by most fans and players if you said Stockton had a similar passing ability to Magic.

Dame is closer to Steph than Bron is to Magic. Magic just had insane frequency and in every imaginable position and game scenario. There’s arguments to be made for other players in other aspects of shooting (post-up, catch and shoot, post) really with Steph we’re only talking about 3PT shooting, with Magic it’s any and every way you can pass a ball.

First off Bron is better than magic off the pnr strictly because magic never played pnr. Nobody is better than magic in transition. Half court it’s closer than u think but I still got magic. If u want to break it down in to subsections that’s fine too but I think jokic is a better post passer than magic.

Even if you want to say Magic might not be the flat out best in certain areas, he’s at least in contention. There’s tons of non-3pt shooting scenarios where Steph is clearly not even close to the best, and I think you can make a similar argument that your making against Magic when it comes to catch and shoot 3s. A post hook is a shot, an elbow fade is a shot, tons of ways the best shooter ever isn’t even serviceable, what ways can Magic just not pass the ball? He played PnR in his career.

No he didnt the jazz were the main team playing pnr nobody played it like that. Sure teams sprinkled it in here and there but utah is closer to the way the modern nba plays today in pnr. I’m not calling a hook ahot the greatest shooter ever that makes 0 sense. I’ll give u post fadeaway and mid range. Steph is in contention for catch and shoot, fts, and any kind of 3s u want. Also steph is undoubtedly the best 3pt shooter overall and ft shooter overall.

You’re admitting exactly what I was getting at though, that when we call Steph the greatest shooter of all time it’s really with the qualifier of 3pt shooting than just overall, which isn’t a fair comparison. You can’t take every type of passing into account for Magic and only consider 3pt shooting for Steph.

Also, the PnR was in the game way before the Jazz were formed as a team. They were running PnRs in the 60s.

I guess the part about being sprinkled in here and there was ignored but the utah jazz is the closest to the modern era today because they ran it the most. U can do whatever subsection of shooting u want but whoever is your best mid range shooter is steph 3pt shooting gap is bigger than his. Steph is a very good mid range shooter he doesn’t shoot alot of mid range shots. Steph shoots 46% from mid range thats not a layup for his career. So that’s 3-10/10-16/16-3pt it’s 46.4/46.4/46.2. Take that info for what u want he’s a 46% mid range shooter that doesn’t shoot as much mid range as the other mid range shooters
