My perspective from Europe is that a lot of American fans treat it the same as going to a concert. They go to a game to be entertained. In most of Europe, with the exception of big football clubs that get a lot of tourists in their game, you go to a game to support your team and you have a role to play in winning the game. It’s your duty to be loud and to give as much to the team as you can. It’s a bit rooted in the notion that the club belongs to the community, and it’s not like you’re fan of the club as much as the club belongs to the people and it’s up to the players to show that they deserve to play for us. Obviously this is all disappearing as it all gets too commercialised, but for me that’s the big difference between european teams and american teams.
There’s certainly some of that in the USA, but definitely not in the NBA. Maybe in college sports, but I don’t watch that.
Yep you see more passionate crowds at college sporting events. The professional leagues are usually more expensive and people take their families so you don’t see massive groups of guys like you see in this video.
Watch a Pistons vs. Hornets game in January the have to pipe in “noise o meter” sounds and the tshirt gun guy actually has to look for somebody to fire a shirt at.
That’d be a fine argument if Euroleague teams weren’t playing 48 fewer games per year than NBA teams. Despite being the worst attended team in the league the Hornets also only draw 2k fewer fans per game than a full Panathinaikos stadium and pass them in total fan attendance by game 19 of their 41 home games.
Yeah Euros love shitting on the sporting culture in the US while completely skipping over the college game. The video of Stephen Fry visiting the Iron Bowl is always a fun one.
Europeans post these clips when they want to make themselves feel better.
Too busy watching winners
Sorry, we actually enjoy the sport and don’t need to use it as a thinly veiled reason to start fights with people on the other side of town.
Oi lad wucha doin here with the jersey of the blue team. I outta put a lickin on you.
I mean it’s not true that we don’t, a college football game has plenty of drunk idiots wanting to fight people.
unfortunatly, I am american.
I posted this because I saw that today was the day in 1995 when Dominique Wilkins signs a two-year, $7 million contract with Panathinaikos in Athens, Greece
And while trying to figure out how his stint went, came across this tweet
Exactly and these fans aren’t even paying attention to the game because they’re so focused on their chants and songs.
As someone who is neither a Yank or a Europoor, the Euro crowds are a billion times better.
You guys get to watch the best basketball players in the world and the best you can muster up is “de-fense!” and “everybody clap your hands!”

Sports is also a niche interest in Europe, outside football.
In America it’s not the case. It’s more mainstream
People in the us have to treat it like a concert. NBA tickets are too expensive especially for some teams.
dont forget “MVP”

Or wack ass DJs playing music in game. I hate that trend the most.
College Football is where the crazy fans tend to put their energy in the US.
Yeah we get to watch the best in the world.
We don’t need to do all the extra stuff to be entertained our league is simply better.
That’s defintely not true. An NBA game has all types of gimmicks to try to keep the crowd from falling asleep
T-shirt cannons, guys on trampolines, announcers telling people to “make some noise”, music and sound effects blaring on every possession

As an American, our arrogance is so goddamn insufferable. Especially since it’s some fat loser usually saying cringe shit like this.
We’re focused on the game, not on ourselves.
Have you ever watched a college game?
You don’t like the fuck trae young chants
Also, Trae is balding.
You forgot about the Kiss Cams 😂
