Everyone seems to rank Wemby based on his future potential rather than how he’s actually played.
The rankings are based on projected value over the upcoming season, so every player’s ranking is based on a forecast.
Past performance is obviously a huge part of a forecast, but (i) he was great last year, and (ii) it’s reasonable to expect significant improvements given his age and experience.
Having him in the 10-15 range isn’t crazy. For example, he was 24th in the league in EPM last year as a rookie. DARKO has him as the 7th best player in the league going forward.
Seems weird to use box score only data for recent years when we have much better data available.
Also seems weird to completely ignore playing time.
