Everyone seems to rank Wemby based on his future potential rather than how he’s actually played.

He may be a monster some day. But it’s also very possible he never becomes a top 10 player in the league.

I mean it is happening both ways, KD/Curry/Lebron are constantly getting ranked for what they were or “When healthy” which just means they are thinking about them in their prime :P

Everyone seems to rank Wemby based on his future potential rather than how he’s actually played.

The rankings are based on projected value over the upcoming season, so every player’s ranking is based on a forecast.

Past performance is obviously a huge part of a forecast, but (i) he was great last year, and (ii) it’s reasonable to expect significant improvements given his age and experience.

Having him in the 10-15 range isn’t crazy. For example, he was 24th in the league in EPM last year as a rookie. DARKO has him as the 7th best player in the league going forward.

I think it’d be weird to not have him top 20.

        I have him around 12th-13th

I mean this ranking is specifically about projection to the end of the season right?

And it’s not unreasonable to think the guy who for the last 42 games of last year was arguably the most impactful defender in the nba and averaged like 23/12/5/1.5/4 on 34/48/80 shooting splits as a rookie could be 11th by the end of the year.

I dunno, how he’s played is to instantly be a 20/10/4/4 guy and already one of the absolute best defenders in the league, making first team and coming 2nd in DPOY as a rookie.

I agree it’s still early, but what he’s actually shown on the court has been a hell of a whole lot. It isn’t just speculation about future potential, he’s shown some serious shit, including clear improvement over the course of the season (especially after dropping the Sochan PG experiment).

But hes not really the 2nd best defender. He was not able to stop any center posting him. Dpoy also takes in team defense correct? Usually the winner is the best bigman on a top tier defense. Histocially at least above league average. They were around last right… seems like an addenda to me honestly not the 2nd best defender quite obviously

Which resulted in 22 wins. Being ranked 11th seems more appropriate on next years list if they win 35 games this season.
