  • I liked it overall. The biggest thing I didn’t like was that they combined the artistic portion with the parade of nations. It meant the coverage kept switching back and forth between the two and I missed things. I like being able to see both those things so I prefer it when they are kept separate.

I also felt a few parts did drag on some and would have been better if they were a bit shorter. One of the most notable to me was when they had the Olympic flame on the boat. That took so long and we were mostly just watching shots of them on the boat.

While not an issue with the ceremony itself, I do wish they had given the broadcasters notes about each segment and the cultural significance. Would have helped those of us that aren’t French understand it better and also maybe stop the broadcasters from trying to guess what was going on. I know they wanted to keep it secret but they could have made them all sign NDAs and only send them the notes a short time before it started.

Like I said, overall I liked it, though I do hope in the future they go back to separating the artistic performance from the parade of nations, but that’s just my preference.

Also, I really hope sometime soon they release an album of the original pieces Victor Le Masne wrote for it, along with the other music he wrote for the Olympics.

  • They are available on the official Olympics site but only in some countries. In the U.S. we have to wait until NBC’s exclusivity for 2024 expires (sounds like it will be at the end of the year) before they become available to us.

I haven’t created an account on the Olympics site so I can’t say they work for sure but when I VPN’d to the UK and accessed the site the videos were at least listed. When looking at it using my normal internet connection they are not. So it probably would work if you register with the Olympics site and gave them UK information (from a UK VPN server).

They are also gradually posting replays on the official Olympics YouTube channel. Once again not available in the U.S. (yet) but available in other countries. That one doesn’t require a login so I was able to test it with my VPN and it did work from the UK. The downside there is that there’s not a lot of events available yet, though it looks like more will be added over time.
