According to Jason Timpf:

  • The Lakers took 34 C&S jump shots last night and 27 of them were “guarded” according to Synergy.

  • 64% of their C&S jumpers have been guarded so far in preseason, compared to 49% in the regular season last year.

  • Last night they got just 0.85 pps on those attempts, and are at 0.82 for the preseason in total.

The system might be better on paper, but it has consistently created much worse results in practice than Darvin Ham’s offensive scheme.

Clearly we have to look at the last preseason to compare results. Last preseason they were 2-4 with a -6.7 point differential, this season they are 1-3 so far with a -7.5 point differential. Seasons before that, 1-5 with -16.3, and 0-6 with -15.

There is a definite trend here, the worse they do in the preseason the better the team does during regular season. By that metric JJ is an improvement over Ham.
