According to Jason Timpf:

  • The Lakers took 34 C&S jump shots last night and 27 of them were “guarded” according to Synergy.

  • 64% of their C&S jumpers have been guarded so far in preseason, compared to 49% in the regular season last year.

  • Last night they got just 0.85 pps on those attempts, and are at 0.82 for the preseason in total.

The system might be better on paper, but it has consistently created much worse results in practice than Darvin Ham’s offensive scheme.

He claims “less open jumpers” but gives a percentage, not a number. If they are taking more jumpers than last year, it would make sense that they are taking more contested shots and the % would go down even if they take the exact same number of open ones.

Just giving the % doesn’t prove that.
