As a number of people have said, if you finish in the top 8 you get an Olympic diploma. You also get an Olympic pin with a number on it - that’s the number of Olympians world wide at the time you get your pin. Starting from Rio everyone got free Samsung limited edition phones and a bag of other electronic goodies. Each country gives their athletes a heap of uniforms/gear. Australia also frames the opening ceremony blazer pocket as a commemorative piece for each athlete, and if I remember right we also got pins with them. You get to use OLY post nominals and you get an olympian.org email address with free cloud storage…

In terms of finances? Probably just debt 🤣

Some governments give some sort of cash incentive for medalists and even participants. Carlos Yulo, 2x Gold Medalist for Gymnastics, was showered with a lot of blessings upon getting home. The rest of the non-medalists were given some cash rewards.

I’d imagine like any other sport, they make the majority of money from sponsors. Even if they didn’t podium, they still competed on the international stage. Even if 5th, 10th, 20th place etc… that’s 20th out of the entirety of the world. Still a massive achievement and honor.
