I think it’s the best way to motivate players to play well. It would incentivize even the older players who wouldn’t care as much about the money and would rather avoid injury.

Doesn’t mess up the 82 game format or record books and also provides some extra cushion for elite teams who may get injured later into the season.

What do y’all think?

I think winning it should gurantee you the final play-in spot at minimal and obviously the players’ incentive still to keep winning after it would be to avoid the play-in by winning. But to know you’ve at least got the final play in spot + the monetary bonus would make most players fight to win the thing.

It was already pretty competitive last year. Until it becomes non-competitive you’re just trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist

Man, the NBA is lucky to have fans who help them extract every last penny from their product.

I mean, if you are a real fan of NBA basketball you should be for this.

Would give us true competitive basketball in the fall/early winter.

We already have truly competitive basketball, October-Jan is the most competitive section of the NBA seasons.

Winds down through february and until the play ins were created, it was just teams preparing for the playoffs otherwise. Maybe 1-2 teams trying to fight for a spot.

Now with the play ins, you have majority of teams either fighting to keep themselves 6th seed or above or teams fighting to get into the 7-10 spots. Leaving all but maybe 4 teams who aren’t really competing.

Personally think NBA cup is just a big nothingburger, just something for casuals to latch onto.

It’s fine the way it is, unaffecting and unimportant. The best change only chang they need to make, was to stop calling it the super corporate term “In-season tournament” when NBA Cup was right there lol.

Its called the NBA Cup this year. I like it and think its a fun addition that will pick up steam over the years. Everyone hates new stuff but I think they just gotta fined an incentive that gets the fans excited about it more than the players.

I dont hate OPs idea but seems like theres probably something better.

I’m open to other ideas but this one seems like the best and takes no effort to implement.

Yes I know I said that.

For me it’s just a big nothing, there’s nothing for it to pick up steam. No one talks about it, no one cares when it starts or who the match ups are. The results are just…nothing.

It’s just the regular season with a bonus game for the two teams that win the most of them. It’s like the division titles to me.

Which will be the peak interest of the cup, you can already tell most NBA fans do not care about it.

NBA casuals might care, but even their interest is weaning. It’s just the regular season with an extra game, there’s not much to care about. The bracket games were all pretty bad except one of them.

It’s the same as the division title. Cool when you win it, but you won’t care at all past that. At least with the division winner in the past, it was an auto 4th seed when the team won. Now it’s just a label on the team’s good season.

It definitely is currently but I think the extra W’s might be the only real way to legitimize it, and it takes no effort.

Liked the idea until I read that it doesn’t mess up the record books.

What if the Celtics go 72-10 and also win the NBA cup? All of a sudden they have the most winningest season in NBA history with 74 wins
