I don’t remember him being touted as #1, or even #2, overall pick material, I feel like the league fumbled letting Memphis grab him.
Legit the only question mark in that starting lineup and he has looked fantastic so far, especially for a rookie.
He has been very impressive so far but there is a reason players like him don’t last in the NBA. Very high floor but relatively low ceiling.
Edey is a complementary player, not a star around whom a team can build, especially these days.
Teams that tank, and therefore usually have the top picks, make bets on very high-potential young players when they pick in the draft since it’s often the only way to get a player with generational talent, even if obviously those players are more likely to become busts than players we could categorize as role players, like Edey.
Plus, 9 really is quite high for a rookie who’s quite old and a player of his archetype.
This is a really funny “hindsight is 20/20” moment because until this year most people thought his game wouldnt translate to the NBA lol
Cause he’s gonna be bad lol
just remember giannis and kawhi were both 15 and klay was 11
I personally have doubts about how much better he can actually get from here. I think his peak is “above average starting center” which is fine, but not what you look for in the top 5
its preseason
lets pump the brakes
yes, scouts get it wrong, but more often than not, they get it right
Going top ten feels in line with what makes sense. I think he’s gonna be a steal for the Grizz though, rooting for him!
Defense. Teams didnt know if he was going to be able to hold up when he gets switched on to smaller players out on the perimeter. Teams still dont know. Will be interesting to see how he goes in the real season and the next few years.
Player will be exposed when regular season starts and he is constantly put in high pick and roll situations and the opposing teams get either a layoff or a wide open three… his coach will be forced to sit him… this is preseason… he is a situational player and not the focal point of the offense… show me his defense in high pick and rolls and isos on the wings…
less than a year ago he was considered a fringe first rounder. the fact he got picked as high as he did is a testament to teams changing their minds on him as he showed more and more that he wasn’t useless outside of bullying smaller teenagers
He’s not mobile enough to guard the perimeter and scored most of his college baskets within 6 feet of the rim, which is an offensive style not utilized as much in the nba.
Why are people keep saying 7 is low??? Did the lottery stop at 5 or 6?
I agree, I was surprised that he went so early.
Senior college player/older than normal lottery players
Teams doubted if he could be an all-nba type of player
And #9 overall isn’t “so low”
Especially with most projecting him as a late first rounder
chill, this is just a preseason.
Somebody said that Clingan was basically a surefire multiple all star after his preseason three was posted in a clip.
Glorious.
This is easily one of the worst sports subs because of how bipolar opinions are when a role player as one decent game
