27 yrs old Lauri VS 22 yrs old Sengun

But do you think Sengun even with the young age has an argument against Lauri? Or Lauri is so much better?

They are both not great defenders. So, this will probably go offense vs offense.

Lauri average 2 more points (23 to 21)

But based on your eye test,

Who do you think is the better player?

My answer

I am leaning Lauri.

Don’t get me wrong, I think 27 yrs old Sengun might be a significantly better player then 27 yrs old Lauri.

But right now, 22 yrs old Senguh I think is a little bit raw, and need more polishing. Though very good already.

Lauri imo is kinda underrated. But his versatility, shooting, and Mobility is an asset to any contender team if he is 3rd or 4th option. (Like KP is for Celtics)

How about you?

“Raw” is the last way I would describe Sengun. He has a very well developed post game. I would argue top 3 in the league. The only way he can substantially improve is by becoming a better defender, converting FTs at a higher rate, and developing a 3 point shot. Any other improvements will be marginal because of how polished he is offensively.

Sengun is the better player. Scoring is about equal but he clears in playmaking department. And the terrible defender gimmick is tired as the Rockets were top 7 defense before he got injured.

Just a bunch of eye-test postings here!

In advanced stats, Sengun > Lauri almost in every category.

He is a better rebounder, VORP-BPM all better than LM, etc.

I can still understand if one chooses LM over AS, but it is close!

Are you talking about fantasy or real life? Real life it’s currently easily Lauri. Fantasy it’s a debate.

Alpy is first option when he plays. Lauri is second. I love when hype surpasses the actual value and on court play.

Lauri is a second option to whom right now?

Both are stereotyped as bad defensively because they are both white euro bigs that are good at offense when both are fine on defense.

Last year, Lauri was probably better but right now, like this very second I am willing to bet Sengun has already surpassed Lauri with how much Sengun has improved every single year.

Sengun was genuinely a bad defender. He was bit better last year but it’s nothing about him being a white euro player. This excuse is getting used way too much.

Lauri is better now but I would take Sengun (and wish spurs did over primo) for his potential

I don’t know, I thought Primo showed show real ‘flashes’ of potential

    Last season:

    Markkanen age 26 - 23.2 PPG | 8 Rebounds | 2 Assists | 0.5 blocks on 48/39/89 shooting

    Sengun age 21 - 21.1 PPG | 9.3 Rebounds | 5 assists | 0.7 blocks on 53/29/69 shooting

It’s a lot closer than people think. I think they’re about the same in terms of skill at the moment, with Lauri having a slight edge over Sengun because of the shooting difference, but Sengun will be the better player soon as he is a better floor commander than Lauri and raises the floor of his teammates more.

Markannen was just signed to a massive new deal… Sengun was told to go prove it for the fun max… I think that illustrates their current standing.

I think Lauri is the better player right now and, even if Sengun ends up the better player, I still think Markkanen would be the easier player to build around.

Unless you’re as talented as Jokic, I’m not a huge fan of the offense first big men that are at best “fine” on defense.

Lauri is better now. He’s a borderline All-NBA forward. Sengun might be better 2-3 years down the line.
