Is kawhis single year for the raptors the greatest mercenary year in the history of the nba? Possibly even north American sports. I can’t think of another example of one player doing more for a team in one single season.

I’m not gonna lie, I originally read this as “Kawhi ruptures tendon”.  Anyone else?

I feel like after Kawhi won that championship he more or less decided to both retire while also taking a bunch of Steve Ballmer’s money.

He could have gotten like 5 titles if his knees weren’t terminally ill. I think it was a mistake to sign with such a loser organization like the clippers though

Insane man what a fall from grace. Dude was locked in to take the reins of the league with giannis. Then curry won again somehow and lebron is aging backwards? Wild shit.

“Luck is when preparation meets opportunity”

    -He was healthy.

    -Hit his prime (imo)

    -Lebron left to the Lakers.

    -Teammates were in form.

    -KD got injured.

    -Klay got injured.

Not taking anything away from him. Everything lined up perfectly.

Well I would say it was definitely 80 percent luck. He could have been traded anywhere by pop too. Wouldn’t have gotten that 2nd ring unless the injuries didn’t happen and if he wasn’t traded to a very strong team already.

I disagree about the prime part I’d say 2017 was his prime that knee really slowed down his defense and his offense a bit as well

Lebron wouldn’t have made a difference at all. Those Sixers and Bucks teams were stacked. If the Raps don’t win that year it would have been the Sixers.

      Nah.

We don’t win the chip without Kawhi. Kawhi could have joined 4 other teams and gotten the chip.

that same squad without Kawhi was 1 basketball away from finals a year later

Maybe not 3, but 2 was a definite possibility

My biggest “what if” for the NBA is: what if Kawhi stayed with Toronto? I think they beat the Celtics & Heat I’m the bubble. Advance to the finals but fall short to the lakers in the championship

Had me first 3 lines — if he stayed Danny green and Marc Gasol wouldn’t have left to the lakers almost 100%. They went for their next ring.

Gasol was with the Raptors in the bubble.  He went to the Lakers the year after.

And once again, they fall to LeBron?! Yeah, maybe. Two finals appearances in a row would have been sweeeeet!

CC Sabathia in 08 on the brewers comes to mind. They didn’t win the WS but CC was a beast for them. In 17 games 11-2, a 1.65 era 7 complete games, era+ of 255, a whip of 1

He also hit .229 with a HR

    Just dominate across the board

I feel like a lot of people undermine how talented those Raptors teams were… we almost won 60 games with the exact same roster minus Kawhi and Green… yes he was that missing link to put us over the hump but we weren’t sum scrub ass team per-say
