Even dressage horses go by their real names.

I don’t think it’s competitive, objective, sporty or entertaining enough to have it. Especially when you’ve got sports out there that have those characteristics in abundance but aren’t yet Olympic.

Your “hot take” is a reductive attempt to attack a community’s roots that doesn’t even make sense.

What about artistic gymnastics then? Is that not a sport?

Looking at the current shitshow that is gymnastics, maybe that should be removed too.

Rule of thumb is an archaic phrase referring to the legal width a stick can be that husbands can use to hit their wives.

Width of my thumb??? Can’t do much damage with that then, can we? Perhaps it should have been a rule of wrist?

No, my mom was talking about how her work friends were talking about how cool the competition was, and she’s in her late 60s and not even into sports.

No, I loved it. Once they weeded out a few of the weaker competitors. It was awesome.

same. I feel bad for all of them as a whole because this probably wasn’t the best showcase of what they do. Instead it’s a giant joke and meme because of that Aussie lady.

      No, it was great.

There’s a bizarre amount of hate directed towards it that similar events simply don’t receive.

Much of the criticism directed at breaking cites its nature as a subjectively judged artistic performance, but so are things like gymnastics, diving, artistic swimming, and dressage. Yet those are staples of the Olympic program.

And even in the winter olympics, figure skating is a blend of athleticism and artistry that’s also subjectively judged.

Yeah. This is what I keep coming to.

I can think of no objective reasoning why Breaking shouldn’t be in the Olympics but gymnastics, diving, ice dancing and figure skating should be.

History. The more subjective an event is, the less I like it in the Olympics. BUT, that said, except for ice dancing, those sports you listed are extremely athletic and also have an established presence in the Olympics. I concede it’s hard to draw a clear line but Breaking doesn’t cut it for me.

I loved it. What a cool sport to showcase a different type of athleticism. Everyone is shitting on one specific person but completely disregarding how much training all the other athletes do in order to be able to have the strength and stamina to perform like that.

It was awesome, but I do think they need to work on the format or scoring a little. I can see why the breakers with all the power moves don’t make it through, but they should consider adding a small teams event where they would shine.

Olympic Games are movement. It’s meant to evolve with time, taking into account what kind of sporting institutions are connecting different social spaces. The institution presented is breaking, and it has specific cultural practices and rituals, that govern protocol and respect. Same with judo.

Idk about breaking in the olympics. But your argument is silly, if we changed to using to real names would it now be worthy of inclusion? That’s pretty meaningless.
