There are some super underrated legends of the game from back in the day. Nique, Jermaine O’Neal, Dennis Johnson, Bernard King, just to name a few.
Who, out of the players active today that are considered superstars (or were at one point), do you think will be mostly forgotten about and underrated for future generations?
I used to have this discussion with my roommate and he always said James Harden, which I thought was a good pick but I figured he’d have a chip by now and I always thought “The Beard” was a memorable… gimmick? Idk. My pick was always Paul George, but now I think he was spot on with James Harden.
I don’t know if he was ever considered a superstar but it seems Joe Johnson has already been quickly forgotten about. Same with Deron Williams, although I wouldn’t count them since they aren’t active anymore.
Who’s your pick?
There’s no way Harden is forgotten about lol
My pick is probably someone like Trae Young, great player but likely never to win a mvp or anything and doesn’t really have and signature plays
Demar derozan and Zach LaVine are other names but it depends if you call them superstars or not
Trae had big playoff moments at MSG that’s eternal
Zach Lavine has never been a superstar. Demar straddled the line for a little while but yeah he might be only be vaguely remembered if at all
What will Harden’s legacy be?
MVP, insane scoring seasons, battling with the Warriors, his impact on the play style of basketball.
So pretty much a poor version of Steph
Fans will always bring the deadly stepback and the unguardable tour. Haters will always bring choking in playoffs and free throws.
I don’t see why his legacy should be any less than Carmelo Anthony or Allen Iverson. Both of them have solid legacies and Harden has a solid argument on doing the same and more.
He did invent a way to travel legally
Trae Young is an active player and I’ve already forgotten about him.
Not sure if this is in a good way or a bad way, but I feel like his rim protection against Ben Simmons may go down as his most memorable play, so as long as Ben Simmons shows up in lists like “who was the greatest wasted potential” then Trae’s name will continue to pop up here and there.
