Disclaimer: I will still include Embiid even if he plays for USA. At the same time, I want to include Sabonis too since he plays for Lithuania (and his father is a former Lithuanian Player).

USUAL LIST

1.Joker

2.Giannis

3.Luka

4.SGA

5.Embiid

Now, is Wemby 6th? And the one who is knocking on the door?

Or Players like Pascal, Sabonis, Lauri, Gobert, Porzingis, etc should be considered too?

Do you think Wemby can replace any of the top 5 in 2-3 yrs time? Or he will need 5 yrs to tke over?

I’m taking 25 and 10 with defensive player of the year pretty much on lock next year over Shai, don’t care

I’m not going to say he’s better than Embiid, but he definitely looked like a solid no. 6 or 7 coming into the 2nd half of the season. Keep in mind that the kid was still playing on minutes restriction and on an otherwise absolutely awful team.

Pair him up with a good PG, and he’ll take a couple steps up offensively.

Yeah Wemby scoring 70 on Embiid really solidifies that he’s better than him.

Lmao sixer fans always bring up this game when comparisons are made. I’m not saying one is better than the other, but Joel only scared 8 of his 70 against Victor. Also had something like 25 Free throws that game lmao

I agree comparing players in one game is kinda pointless.

          Lets compare season.

Wemby last year 21.4/10.6/3.9 PIE 16.2

          Embiid’s last full season (2022) 33.1/10.2/4.2 PIE 21.3

It’s close, but personally I’d give the slight edge to Embiid.

You’re being disingenuous, right? You’re coming off as if I offended you personally because I’m not deep gobblin Joel. All i did was provide context about the 70 point game, and threw in a free throw merchant shot.

Regardless of that, comparing a rookie season to a players 9th year in the league is one of the most r/nba shit i’ve seen in awhile lmao

I just found it very funny you were playing it coy with the “not saying on is better than the other” when one is very clearly much better than the other.

I preempted the context to specifically avoid getting into the whole drawn out “mY pLaYeRs BeTtEr LoOkiN!!1!” spiel. Because I know that weird mfs on r/nba like to treat players like their best friends and will defend them to death.

I was just providing context to the discussion, nothing to take to heart.

by including it you give off the vibe that there is a debate when there simply isn’t. It’s ok that your guy isn’t as good as a guy that won MVP 2 years ago. You don’t need to crown him before he accomplishes anything. I’m sure he will get much better and be in these convos at some point. Just enjoy the ride brother.

He’s been in the league one season and won ROY and 2nd in DPOY. To say he can’t be MVP level next season is crazy to me. He’s different.

Unless he makes an even bigger relative leap this season than last (which would be insane, last season’s was already a massive jump from game 1 to game 82) his ceiling is maybe very back end of top 10 all players. This list either is or is close to the actual top 5 in the NBA.

The one thing that makes it interesting is CP3 unlocking his game could go crazy, but if he needs someone else to unlock him then he’s not top 5.

I mean those top 5 can arguably be considered the top 5 overall in the NBA right now. They occupied spots 1-4 in the MVP voting and the 5th would likely been there if he didn’t get hurt. Wemby is probably up next but he’s definitely not there yet

Luka, Giannis, Jokic, Shai, and Embiid (Maybe) are definitively better.

If you don’t count Embiid here are some guys he’d have to be better than:

Siakam, KAT, Markannen, Sengun, RJ Barrett, Kyrie, Gobert, Porzingis, Sabonis, Wagner

Maybe. If all goes according to plan, then in the next 2 to 3 years he is gonna start surpassing some of them. And as Embid, Giannis and Jokic start to decline and Wemby starts entering his prime…most certainly.

But this is all under the asumption that he doesnr get a huge injury in the near future.

I don’t think he’s knocking for top5, but he might be close to 6th after next season, or actually be 6th, depending how things turn out

If Kings doesn’t make the playoffs, then people might be willing to put him over sabonis, but if Kings does make it, then they might lean towards him
