Im not even sold on imaginative. There’s some good characterization, but it’s almost all stolen imagery and mythology and everything behaves as expected…wizards, elves, dragons. Not a lot of wrinkles.

Something like Dan Simmons’ Olympus and Illium, are staggering in their scope and originality…with a take on Greek mythology that will blow your mind.
