I looked at some stats. Trae Young has only played 6 seasons and has 3868 assists and 10379 points. If we extrapolate the for a 13 year career he’ll finish with 8K assists and 21K points.

Players who have achieved those totals: LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, and Oscar Robertson. Guys like Luka and Harden will likely reach those totals as well.

Trae doesn’t pass the eye test for the Hall of Fame (one all-NBA third team selection and generally poor team performances) but those numbers make him a lock and his career will likely go past 13 years letting him finish with something like 10K assists and 24K points.

Thoughts?

I feel like players on worse teams have made it in, so I can’t imagine that’s too big a factor for or against him. The first thing I’d say is that he’s definitely got plenty of talent, and pretty eye-popping talent. I can imagine him making it if he just plays long enough which is a big if, but like a lot of commenters mentioned, he probably needs more awards to strengthen his argument.

Somebody asked the other day if Jrue is a hofer. His stats don’t match with Trae’s , but he is a winner. Some guys bring intangibles that produce winning , some guys bring empty stats. Some guys are loved by their teammates, some guys aren’t . NBA HOF is ridiculously easy to get into, so more than likely Trae can continue to put up empty stats and get in playing on losing teams . I’m not saying you have to win multiple titles , but you should have a history of carrying your team deep into the playoffs on a regular basis.

As if Jrue wasn’t ever on losing teams, or he ever carried any team deep into the post season. The only season he was the #1 guy he ended up in the lottery.

He’s a great piece but he won two championships as a #3 and #4 option. Calling him a “winner” (even though he was on mostly losing teams for 10 years before reaching Milwaukee) to imply that Trae is a loser is stupid. One won rings with Giannis, Middleton, Tatum, Brown, Porzingis while the other has been surrounded by Capela, John Collins, Jalen Johnson, Bogdanovic or DeAndre Hunter.

    I’d say it’s within reason.

It’s gonna require the Hawks to become much more competitive and with that his stats will likely earn him more individual accolades.

He’s already put up some historic numbers in just 6 seasons.

He has the talent but he’s not getting there on mid-ass teams that are duking it out in the play ins every year.

He’s 25. Lots of years left to prove himself, barring chronic injuries shutting him down prematurely.

*sighs looking at photos of Luka in a Hawks hat on draft night…*
