I looked at some stats. Trae Young has only played 6 seasons and has 3868 assists and 10379 points. If we extrapolate the for a 13 year career he’ll finish with 8K assists and 21K points.

Players who have achieved those totals: LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, and Oscar Robertson. Guys like Luka and Harden will likely reach those totals as well.

Trae doesn’t pass the eye test for the Hall of Fame (one all-NBA third team selection and generally poor team performances) but those numbers make him a lock and his career will likely go past 13 years letting him finish with something like 10K assists and 24K points.

Thoughts?

I feel like players on worse teams have made it in, so I can’t imagine that’s too big a factor for or against him. The first thing I’d say is that he’s definitely got plenty of talent, and pretty eye-popping talent. I can imagine him making it if he just plays long enough which is a big if, but like a lot of commenters mentioned, he probably needs more awards to strengthen his argument.
