The Closing Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place at 21:00 local time in the Stade de France.

Details
Opening Ceremony Director Thomas Jolly will also direct the Closing Ceremony, which will be a “very acrobatic show with an operatic dimension.” The Ceremony will begin with a performance by the Haendel-Hendrix Academy Choir as the Olympic Flame enters the Stade de France, followed by the flagbearers of the participating nations.

To celebrate the first gender-equal Olympic Games in history, the medal ceremony for the women’s marathon (as opposed to the men’s event, which occurred yesterday) will be held. The 45,000 volunteers of Paris 2024 will also be honoured.

The artistic portion of the Ceremony, entitled “Records,” will take viewers “on a dreamlike journey through the foundations of humanity” that “celebrates the shared human experience of the Olympic Games” and “pays homage to the creation of the Olympic Games and their revival by Pierre de Coubertin.” 270 artists and performers, including bands Air and Phoenix, will play a part in this segment.

As is tradition, the Olympic flag will be handed over by Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris, to Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles in the final segment of the evening. This will be followed by a 15-minute artistic presentation showcasing the culture of Los Angeles which will reportedly feature performances by locals Billie Eilish, HER, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Snoop Dogg, as well as an appearance by Tom Cruise.

I’m French and I attended the Closing Ceremony at the Stade de France. I am so happy I decided to do this! It was a great experience, very fun. I only wish there had been more French people in the section of the stadium I was in. During the karaoke part I was sooooooo happy and I sang every part but I felt quite lonely!

What a wonderful opportunity! It’s a memory you will have for a lifetime. I had tickets to the first Skeleton Event for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. I came down with the flu, so I was not able to go. I hope to go to the Olympics in LA in 2028. I live 6 hours away, so we will see.

If it allows you, watch the BBC Sport montage on Youtube. It’s obviously mostly GB-centric but it’s a great piece of video art

The French are usually pretty arrogant about and the first to defend their culture, and yet they still managed to fill it with non-French celebrities. Compared to London say that was pure British through and through.

Is it really surprising that not all of the artists are French? After all, this is a mega made-for-TV event, and English is the international lingua franca. It makes sense if they want to maximize global viewership.

It does not appear on the song list, but does anyone remember if there was a segment featuring Woodkid - Prologue? Hoped that it would be featured again

Ok I know there were a lot of problems with the closing ceremony but what was your favourite part ?

I personally loved the Ancient Greek light show in the crowd and I love that they finished it with my way.

Hey guys, what’s the most dynamic type of fencing that I should watch? Something that looks like true combat.

    Thanks

The saber is both poking and slashing, so it looks more violent and it’s faster. It’s a bit too erratic for me though. I prefer the Epee.

I am a little bit annoyed. I wanted to rewatch the closing montage and Mike Tirico’s closing remarks - they’re one of my favorite parts of the ending ceremony as sappy as that sounds.

Instead of putting it as part of the closing ceremony as they always do, they did as part of the stupid “Countdown to LA28” show that no one bothered watching. Fine enough, but they removed the replay of it as soon as it finished airing so now it’s impossible to see the VOD.

Observations no one will care about. Hong Kong’s flag bearer for the closing ceremony Lee Sze Wing was probably chosen because she was the only one left in the delegation, participating in the Omnium hours before.

Our main medalists in fencing and swimming ended in the first week and flew home afterwards

Anyone noticed how Phoenix band’s guitars had the brand name of the guitar taped off?

    Wonder why

Maybe it’s the same rule that says athletes can’t have brand names on themselves. Yeah, it would end up looking like the Indy500. And you don’t see company logo’s all over arenas.
