As the title states, for those that remember. Both were undersized guys that had their cities in a frenzy. Who do you think had more “buzz” and “hype”?

The Clutch player of the year award is kinda lame, but if there was ever a year it would have been interesting, it was Westbrook vs IT in 2017.

The Celtics were in 44 clutch games, and went 30-14 in those. IT was scoring 5.1ppg in those 44, and shooting 48/40/90 in clutch situations.

For reference of how crazy this competition would have been, the Thunder were 25-15 in the clutch, and Westbrook was scoring 6.2ppg in those 40 games, on 45/33/85 shooting

In general, both Westbrook and IT were scoring 10ppg in the 4th quarter. To tie it back in Brunson, there is/was excitement around him. But the “omg he pulled out another game outta his ass” level isn’t the same as it was with IT. The clutch stuff just isn’t at the same level, which is the most exciting part of the sport

Don’t know why you are getting downvoted. If you compare their playoff stats Brunson definitely had a better run and has been a better playoff performer for theKnicks.

The last two years Brunson is averaging 30/4/7 in the playoffs on 56 TS%

The two years IT was an all-star on the Celtics he averaged 23/6/3 on 55 TS%

IT has a better story being so short but Brunson is clearly a tier better on both ends of the floor

There’s this misconception on r/nba that IT and Brunson are the same height

IT was 5’9, Brunson is listed as 6’2 (but most likely closer to 6’). Either way, he’s at least 3 inches taller than IT, and maybe up to 5 inches taller

Which makes 2017 IT even more impressive IMO

If you’re asking about hype and buzz, it’s not even comparable.

when comparing any player to 2017 IT its more of a reminder of a cautionary tale. its almost as if people want to reserve putting too much stock on Jalen for example because of what happened with IT after that season. I think Brunson will be more sustainable as he has full trust from the org, IT deserves to get full credit for that magical season tho so ill say him.

IT had the better run but Brunson is the FAR better player
