We’ve seen guys like IT and Jalen Brunson have break out years, and reach new heights, by going to a new situation that was a much better fit. Is there anyone else in NBA history you think could have similarly had this level of elevation had they moved to a more favourable situation?
Hate to say it as both a Magic and Clippers fan, any superstar for either team would probably win a chip somewhere else.
Melo
I’m biased, but Darius Miles should have been an All-Star. He was on the Juco team known as the Clippers to start his career, then played for the dumpster fire Cavaliers and jailblazers. Then he hurt his knee and was out of the league too early. He was never in a stable situation, never was in an environment that would encourage him to focus on basketball, and when he finally could have had an opportunity in Memphis or somewhere he was hurt.
Dominique Wilkins, Kevin Garnett, Melo.
Can’t include Melo unless you’re talking NY Melo. The Nuggies tried to pair him up with some talent.
Lebron spent a decade in a shit hole
Charles Barkley and the 76ers, right around the time that he was becoming a star they trade the number one pick that would have been Brad Dougherty away along with Moses Malone. Just head scratching moves proved by Charles immediately winning mvp upon leaving
Demarcus
Furkan Korkmaz. Movement shooter used in a no-movement offense, then asked to be the point guard of the team
Wembanyama
Darko Milicic

Kobe if he didn’t have scraps from 2004-2008. Right in the middle of his prime
Currently:
Malik Monk Patrick Williams Payton Pritchard
Payton Pritchard
???
Payton is good enough to be a starter for a bunch of teams and playing more for most teams. But he’s sacrificing to be on a championship team. It’s not that long ago that he was so upset with his playing time that he demanded a trade.
John Wall
I’d say OPJ and Nene were probably better defenders than him, but otherwise I’d agree with what you said. It’s disgraceful how our FO supported him.
Nene was a great defender, but by 2016, he was gone. Even before he left, he missed more and more time. They needed someone to be what he was for the defense, but that never happened.
Otto was mostly solid and was probably more consistent, game to game. Wall excelled as that looming free safety, though I do believe that his gambling was unwarranted at times. Overall, the team badly needed a defensive ace to go along with the much needed structure they lost by 2016.
Judging by how much everyone else gets blamed when he loses, Lebron
