Why are Steph and even Luka in consideration for being some of the best basketball players ever when they don’t play defense? In my eyes the top 10 should be the best players on both sides of the ball, not just one. Can Steph really be considered a top 5 player all time without ever being an above average defender?

I mean isn’t that primarily why Steph is only considered a fringe top 10 all time players? Nearly all of the players in consideration for top 10 were two way players when they were in their prime

Growing up I remember most people saying Magic was the second greatest player ever and he was an average defender.

Magic gets to play with Kareem, doesn’t have FMVP for all his rings, and be mediocre on defense and still be considered top 5 but no one else is allowed in there lol

Thats exactly what I’m saying, I’ve just been seeing a lot people put steph top 7-8 and wondering how he leapfrogs so many people without ever being a two way player. He for sure is one of the most influential idk about best though

They play 5-on-5, not 1-on-1. Stephen Curry is a perfectly fine defensive point guard. Within his role in a 5-on-5 basketball team, he is in no way a liability on the defensive end (and is actually quite solid), while being one of the greatest, if not the greatest, offensive force in the league’s history.

I think those people would make the case that his offensive impact was just that extraordinary, and there’s a lot of evidence to support that.
