      Russia’s birth rate is below replacement level and that number probably still counts the 500,000+ dead buried (or not) in Ukraine.

      In a generation this list will be full of sub Saharan African states too.

      They never fully recovered from ww2, insane population loss of young, healthy men and women

        They were 4th in the early 2000’s and at one point had a population larger than the USA when they were the USSR.

        Not to mention the Cold War and they very much recovered from WWII.

          I think the Russian Empire/USSR always had a larger population than the US.
