Would it be more affordable if every country participating contributed an amount proportional to their GDP to help lessen the financial cost and burden for the host nation?

This would allow for smaller countries to host the Olympics and not have only a couple of cities rehosting it 2-3x when other cities have yet to even host once.

    I don’t think it is a good idea, but I’m curious how this would work.  

    Would each country give a million dollars? What about those that can’t afford it? I guess you could do percentages, but now you have rich countries paying a lot of money for nothing.  

    Then you have to trust that they actually use it properly. There are bound to be many countries requesting to do it despite not having the capacity like airports, transportation, housing, fields, and so on. Many of the current countries doing the olympics already have some of these things. Sure a poorer country could update some of these, but there just wouldn’t be a enough money to do them all.
