Seeing talks about this year’s offseason free agency, elite shot creators like BI and Demar just aren’t that valued in today’s league compared to someone like Lauri who is a great offense. Even from a production standpoint, the Pacers with the top-rated offense don’t have many shot-creators on the team. I wonder if the NBA will see an offensive transition from its second-tier star players (aka stars not like Luka/Shai) to focus more on play finishing and becoming somewhat like an elite offensive role player.

Personally yes, I think so. But then I’ve also long thought that this sub overvalues on ball shot creation.

It’s not that shot creation isn’t very important. It’s that most true contenders are better off with a guy who does everything but create shots than with a shot creator who adds little without the ball in hand.

I’ve been lower on Ingram for years because of exactly this. If you can’t lead a team to a title as a clear cut 1a/1b, then what you can do with the ball in your hand matters way less to me than what you can do without it. There are a lot of guys less “talented” than him that I’d rather have on the Celtics for the same salary.

Luka, Brunson and Shai were top five for points off pull-up shooting last season. All very valuable in the playoffs. It is highly valued in number one options.

Catch and shoot players can be more complimentary to the stars.

Nah there are just players who do it more efficiently then others and if not efficiently for a lot cheaper teams would rather pay Jordan clarkson 15 vs paying derozan and Ingram 40

I’m noticing a trend where teams are valuing efficiency over pure shot creation. BI and DeRozan might be elite, but guys like Lauri who fit modern offenses seem to be the hot ticket.

Shot creation is still crucial to a roster.

The issue now is just that guys that were only borderline max players can’t justify that contract under the 2nd apron era.

In the 2nd apron era, if you want a real contender with longevity, you need a genuine #1a, #1b dynamic with your max guys. Ingram might not even be a real #2 on a contender so he’s going to struggle to get a max contract.

Shot creation is important for every star player, the issue is that most good teams already have good shot creation. BI and Demar are good shot creators but they’re not elite.
