Carmelo is credited with making the Knicks relevant again, making 5 all-star appearances and finishing 2nd in 2013 MVP voting. His lack of playoff success is often criticized however only winning 1 playoff series in his Knicks career, and being seen as a selfish ballhog type of player.

Yes, it’s not like there’s a ton of players who did see a lot of playoff success with the knicks recently

    Easy answer should be no.

A longer answer would detail the storied franchise that is the New York Knicks and that they retire the jerseys of players who actually did something significant there.

Melo was a ball hog, got his points, and barely got past the 1st Rd once in his time there. Not everyone, hometown kid or not, deserves a jersey retirement.

I also believe he shouldn’t have his Jersey retired in Denver either

Is the Knicks franchise considered storied? Their overall results are below average compared to other teams though they are very popular.

No one should. Melo has been horrifically overrated since his retirement. He was a turnstile on defense and a me first team cancer that never won anything in the NBA.

I don’t get how he’s overrated when every single time he comes up these are the types of comments that come up too…

I think he is one of the most overrated players in general. I do appreciate him coming to the Knicks when every other star rejects us. But he is nothing more than the best scorer in a very bad team. He is the Knicks version of Shareef Abdur Rahim. His only playoffs success was when he teamed up with career winners like Jason Kidd and Tyson Chandler. Dwight Howard should be in the NBA 75 instead of him.

As a Knicks fan, 100% yes.

I never understood being stingy with jersey retirements, they’re hype when they happen and it’s a fun moment to celebrate a player.

We’re not the Nuggets where our franchise GOAT plays the same number, retire him, let’s have a fun day at the garden, and then get to spam Melo memes.
