Hey everyone,

I recently competed in archery at the Olympics, which isn’t as recognised as sports like swimming or track. Even though I didn’t win any medals or get much recognition, it’s been my dream to compete.

I’m not sure if i’m ‘worthy’ enough to call myself an Olympic athlete let alone an athlete? And is it okay for me to get a tattoo of the Olympic rings, even though my sport and I haven’t received much attention?

*Also sorry if this isn’t the right sub to post in

If you qualified for the Olympics, you are an Olympian. There is no denying that status.

You can also never be a “former” or “ex” Olympian. The Olympian title stands for life.

You are an athlete. You are an Olympian.

Of course!! You are one of the elite athletes in the world and competed with the best in your sport. There is no doubt.

However, your question sounds like there is much self-doubt. I think that if you could get into a mental space of not being awed by anyone else, that you could improve upon your previous performances. You are an Olympian, so you would know; at that level, mental edge is often the only edge.

Did you pass to the knock-out stage, or were you eliminated in the qualification stage? In the second case you aren’t…

Just kidding, if it is true that you at least went to Paris to shoot a bow you are Olympic worthy, who gives a fuck where you end up. Anyway if you did qualify for round of 64 there’s a chance I saw you, as I saw pretty much the whole competition… Sadly I lost on the preselections because I wasn’t aware they were being held so early

Look, I tried archery and the best I could do was 3x6s at 10m. I’ll let you compare with your actual score at 70m in the event and see that yes indeed, you are on a completely different level compared to any random person picking up a bow and arrows.

I believe if a person competed in the Olympics in any event they can get the Olympic ring tattoo. You are an Olympian and earned that right.

What right do we mere mortals have to tell an Olympian what to do in terms of expressing their representation? Go for it. Archery is a highly skilful sport. Too skilful for me.

It might not be the most popular sport, but it has long history and is done on a very professional level with tough competition.

And you qualified to compete at the Olympics in that sport.

Dude, of course you are a “real” Olympian.

Hope you enjoyed every moment of that!
