    So what? It’s not like the medals are meant to be resold for their monetary value. They’re more symbolic for the medallists than anything else.

    Has about 6 grams of gold if I’m not mistaken and the medal is worth about $1,000 at face value.

    The inside is silver which is then plated with 6 grams of gold (~$475) and a piece of iron from the Eiffel Tower.

    The 1908 medal is more like a coin 🪙 Pure gold would be ridiculously expensive for current medal size and also not very robust. It would bend easily
