I’m kinda sad about that. I really enjoyed watching it. I didn’t agree with the judging methods but it was fun to watch. Really liked the dancers battling it out.
Oh okay I didn’t know they had a technical breakdown like this. Imo they should have shown the individual scores or at least a summarised version like fof gymnastics and diving. From the viewers’ ends it seemed like the judges were just choosing who they thought were better.
its a hard balance. The issue you have is that new observers don’t know anything about it so it really helps to have opinionated commentary. However at the same time its common to not be biased in commentary and its not really a done thing to commentate about the weakness of a given breaker or try to predict an outcome for the viewer.
If the IOC weren’t such asses about the viewing rights it would have great to have more commentary options and some more opinionated with time to break down the judging system for newer viewers.
There were some interesting narratives that an opinionated commentary could have provided for the viewer. There were a couple of relatively big shocks in the semi-finals with Danny Dann beating Victor via some incredible musicality and Victor misjudged how his first round went which meant he did a short 3rd round and lost. In the other semi final Shigekix (the favourite) did some excellent stuff but was heavily marked down for repeating material from previous rounds which was a product of how hard his group was. That was a group where crowd favourite Hiro10 came last because despite his explosive style he wasn’t well rounded, particularly creative and he lacked the musicality in his power (the spinning moves) that Shigekix has.
It’s a shame these little dramas couldn’t be explained better to the audience.

And the sportsmanship was so great too. Loved watching them cheer each other on!
Judging methods are very unique and interesting if you care to learn.

Thank you for the breakdown. It was super helpful.
