Hear me out:

“Blind standings”. Don’t tell any of the teams the other teams records or the standings except for their own. They will have to default to just trying to win every game.

I guess teams could get around this by watching the other games and manually keeping track of the records but that seems too time consuming. and it’s cost inefficient if teams have to manually hire someone to keep track of that for all 32 teams.

Last place team looses their draft spot (gets pushed to last pick). So if you want to be bad, you can’t be ‘that bad’.

It always trips me out how kids think certain things are impossible without the fucking internet.

Newspapers still actually exist, and beat writers still publish articles about the games. Local TV news still discussed the games every night.

Like, those aren’t even bygone relics of the past that no longer exist. It’s still happening today. But kids in their teens and twenties have just obviously never seen a newspaper or a local TV news program, like literally ever in their life.

Google NBA draft lottery and how would this prevent teams like the Pistons from theoretically “tanking” when they are so far out of the playoffs…

The results of the games are literally on the internet. Even if the league were to not publish them anymore, you could easily find them. Plus tanking still works in this system. Teams would try even harder to lose games, because they wouldn’t be able to know how much the other teams sucked.

How do you think people counted standings before the internet?

        Can confirm.

He was legally obligated to tell you the standings, and the correct time of day.
