I’m not a basketball fan, I’ve never really liked basketball but recently I started watching Team USA play in the Olympics and man I’ve enjoyed watching the games so much and as a result I’m considering watching the NBA and becoming a fan. The issue is though, from what I’ve seen, the NBA as a product has way too many commercials and stoppages and the games drag out for too long. One of the main reasons I liked Olympics basketball is because it is similar to soccer, free flowing and with little stoppages. So now I’m wondering whether I should watch the NBA or if these issues are gonna be too hard to overlook. So, should I?

Don’t worry about how entertaining the games are. You don’t have to watch any games to be a massive NBA fan online

I do get what you mean regarding commercials… All those breaks can really be annoying and take you away from the action.

Id suggest to start by watching extended highlights of games when the new season starts and see if you get into it.

The NBA is more of a “product” than the Olympics but it’s the same sport at the end of the day. You simply can’t recreate the stakes of single game matchups with your country on the line compared to an 82 game season where it’s jersey color vs jersey color. The scoring is gonna be higher/more casual, the defense is gonna be a bit lazier, the reffing is going to be more annoying. But a good basketball game is still a good basketball game.

This makes a lot of sense. I see a lot of NBA fans saying the Olympic Games are better than the nba because it’s more intense and every game matters but the NBA is 82 games where as the Olympics is a single game with knockouts, so it’s hard to have the same intensity.

I thought you wanted to play in the NBA, and thought how could it not be worth it?

Games take like 2 hours. If that is so long that you can’t appreciate the game, then probably don’t dive into NBA

Regular season is borderline unwatchable. No single game means very much and a game can be stretched to almost 3 hours. It can be fun to watch the big matchups but often times a star player will be sitting out for it.

No, it’s not worth it. I became a fan in 2010 and the league is an absolute joke. It’s a more realistic form of the WWE solely for entertainment purposes. You’ve got player beating the crap out of there kids and wives, yet they get handed a small suspension then a $200 million contract. The NBA is full of tik tokers and podcasters who for the most part are pretty corny and cringe. It’s a giant circus that features “some”basketball. The fans have been bad too. They have no moral compass and treat this NBA players as if they are the higher power. I recently switched to baseball, and rodeo. It’s been much much better. I’m gonna get hella downvotes from the fanboys I just mentioned above, but it’s true. Do not get into the NBA there are way better hobbies and sports if interested.

Just record the games and start watching 45 minutes or so after tip. You’ll be able to fast-forward through most commercials/halftime before catching up sometime in the 4th quarter.

Let’s you experience everything in a much more efficient timeframe.

I think you’d be better off watching container wars or some ALF re runs.
