I’m really sad the Olympics are over like all of you, but I’m comforted by the fact that so many of these sports have international competitions that occur between Olympics. For example, there’s the World Athletics Championships, the World Aquatics Championships, the Canoe Slalom World Championships, World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, the World Rowing Championships, and more. I never followed these events much previous years, but I’m determined not to force the summer Olympic spirit to hibernate for a full four years. Don’t despair! 💪🏼

Here in Britain, the BBC show the World Athletics championships in their entirety, on free-to-air TV, so for a week or so everyone suddenly loves athletics again.

Creates a weird situation where for 1 week during the summer, every other year, it’s one of the most popular sports in the country. Then it disappears again.

That’s so interesting. I guess the challenge with all sports is sustaining an interest outside of tournament season. For sports without a dedicated league (like the Premier League), it’s much harder.

There’s also other major multisport events. I enjoy watching the Commonwealth Games. Not having my country at the event means I can forget about rooting for my team and just root for whichever athletes inspire me or I otherwise find charming. They also have a few sports that aren’t in the Olympics and mix the para-events into the other ones, making them feel more important.
