Did they really mess up their future by having a superteam?

I’ve seen several people online say that the Nets should’ve never had a superteam and instead keep their old core

In 2019, The Nets went 42-40 and were the 6th seed and lost in 5 games to the 76ers. The team had an average defense and a below average offense with a -.1 net rating.

They were led by DLo. They also had Joe Harris, Jarrett Allen and Dinwiddie. The rest are just a bunch of role players.

Honestly, If they had kept this core, They would’ve been missing the playoffs or losing in the first round.

It was a gamble that didn’t pay off, and not a terrible gamble. A few inches of KD’s shoe might have changed things immensely. Even if something was an 80% gamble that’s still 20% failure. That doesn’t mean it was a bad gamble, and in sports you have to take some gambles with roster choices in general.

Their mistake was getting rid of Allen

Signing Durant and Irving as free agents was a no brainer. I genuinely didn’t like the Harden trade because giving up that many draft picks gave me flashbacks to the Billy King Celtics trade. That being said, I understand why they did it, and for a short period of time they looked like the greatest team ever assembled.

They got a lot closer to winning a title in 2021 than they would have otherwise. It didn’t work out but it absolutely was the right decision.

being forced to trade Jarrett Allen, when the Rockets didn’t really want him either, was the big miss. None of the other players they traded are really worth caring about.

The Nets traded Allen for a late 1st that turned into Marjon Beauchamp, and sent that pick as part of the trade to the Rockets. Had they managed to retain Allen, that team looks much much different.

As much as I dislike those 3 for quitting on the team, the core we had didn’t have championship potential and we had to go for it all when we had the chance

Keeping the cord together would mean giving D Lo a max contract.

Kenny Atkinson Nets were one of my fave League pass teams to watch. DLo LeVert Allen Joe Harris Dinwits RHJ. I was sad when they broke that all up.
