I know this is a funny meme and I’ve had my fun with it too, but people are overdoing it. She did her best, she did much more than most of us will ever accomplish and at some point she’ll be back home and that’s when she’ll have to deal with the mockery online. Let’s be a bit civilized here and not bully an athlete into depression. Let’s focus on what we enjoyed, not on what we disliked. Be a bit positive, people!

I’m seeing Australian people say it was satire so they’re kinda fanning the flames.

She was very bad and whether it was satire or not, kinda embarrassing for the Olympics as a whole.

This is just you being righteous for internet points. She knows what she did, she knew before going in.

Speak for yourself. She lost every single “battle” she took part in. She won 0. I also won 0 dance battles. She was terrible, and had no business being in the Olympics representing her country. I’m not sorry that she sucked.

There’s a long, problematic history of academics observing cultures and then claiming to be their representatives. There’s also a long problematic history of white people participating in POC culture and then being heralded by white power structures. Both of these phenomena appear to be on display with Raygun. She is obviously passionate about and invested in breaking culture but there’s no good reason for her to be representing it on a global stage. Even she knew she did not have the skill to be there seriously so she just made a spectacle of herself and a mockery of breaking — whether she intended to or not. If someone did that with gymnastics, track, or swimming, the backlash would be 10 fold. If she really studies and loves breaking like she claims she would have tried to uplift another Australian from within the culture that could actually show the world what the country had to offer.

What “athlete” are you talking about? If she’s an athlete, who isn’t an athlete?

Man, society is getting so touchy. We can laugh at someone doing something we consider funny. Perhaps you can maybe give some examples of jokes that you consider to be, “out of hand” and enlighten us?

It’s not her fault. It’s the insufferable Australian who think “per capita gold medal count” is a thing.

Apparently she knew exactly what she was doing and scored 0 points out of protest because she doesn‘t want breakdance to be part of the olympic games.
