Not sure if these types of posts are allowed so apologizes if they aren’t. I’ve been a diehard San Francisco Giants fan my whole life, my dad grew up there and baseball is the only sport I usually watch. But, the past few years I’ve really missed watching games in the off season, I’ve been watching Olympic basketball and I’ve really liked what I’ve watched so far. This lead me to trying to decide on a team to root for, my first thought was the Blazers, as I’ve lived in Portland my whole life and I plan to stay here as long as possible. But, every team I root for is from the Bay Area, Giants, Niners, and Sharks, so that lead me to thinking about the Warriors, which is also the team my dad rooted for growing up. Sports have always reminded me of him as he coached all my teams when I was young and some of my best memories are at Baseball games with him. I know the Warriors are on the decline right now so I was also thinking about the Kings, as the Giants have their Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento and I end up driving there once or twice a year to see games. If anyone has any insight that could help that would be highly appreciated! Thanks in advance

Hi there. Welcome to the subreddit. I say this as a fan of the Raptors but an even bigger fan of the NBA as a whole.

The past few years after the raptors championship have been nothing short of depressing. Throughout this time I’ve found a few teams and they’re players I really enjoy watching. Here are my top 3

Oklahoma City Thunder, Super young core. Great star in Shai. Loaded with draft picks for the future. Front office knows how to do they’re job. All around great franchise. Came 1st in the conference last season. Bright future for them

Dallas Mavericks, You have two stars in Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Lot of other pieces on that team that make them a force to me reckoned with, after all, they just made it to the finals. Marc Cuban owns the team, he’s always making bold decisions for the team.

Minnesota Timberwolves, Anthony Edward is HIM. Very entertaining squad to watch play. They’re one of the best teams in the league. They bring the intensity. Rooting for them to win a chip here soon.

These are my 3 fav teams to watch in todays NBA. Hope this gives you some insight!!!

When the season starts watch a few games of each of the teams you listed and see which one excites you the most.

Yep this is how I became a Mavs fan in 2001. I started watching NBA again when MJ returned and I loved Ray Allen in Uconn so it came down to the Wizards,Bucks, then the Mavs who just excited me the most with Nash,Dirk,Finley,Van Exel and their style of play.

Just watch alotta games and it will come natural to you by Christmas

That’s awesome. I bet some of those Mavs teams over the years were fun to watch

blazers 1000% - not everyone lives in a city with an nba team, enjoy it!

since the blazers won’t be in playoff considerations and will probably lose a lot, my suggestion is to pick a good team in the east to secondarily root for so you can be invested in the playoffs without having to support an in-conference competitor. and it should be the knicks… :) but seriously, ex-blazer josh hart is extremely entertaining to follow

you could also pick the bucks bc of dame lillard, which could be cool too (i guess). that said, i don’t know how blazers fans feel about dame - josh was traded straight up, but dame requested a trade so there might be some lingering ill will in portland. either way knicks are arguably more buzzy and exciting to root for at this particular moment, and the vibes are historically good right now

Root for the Blazers bro, it’s practically a cardinal sin to be Portland born and raised and not root for them. Also, if you want to watch a team not get devastated by 40 points multiple times in the next season, just root for the Bucks because they have Dame. Whatever you do, don’t become a Lakers fan, that’s basically saying you like Hitler in Portland lol.

I mean, if you live in Portland just be a Blazers fan so you can easily attend games.

Choosing a team can be tough, but it’s great you’re considering your personal connections and memories. The Blazers are a strong local choice, while the Warriors and Kings also offer compelling histories. Follow a few games from each to see which resonates with you most!

I like one of the worst teams in Aussie rules so I get to go for the lakers and not feel bad (Collingwood + Celtic fans can get in the bin)

Pacers are really fun and not the obvious/glory hunter choice unlike something like Lakers.

Of the ones you cited the one with the best shot at having success in the near future is the warriors. They have some challenges ahead of them and are on the decline but you should never bet against Stephen Curry and their owners showed over and over again that they know how to build a winning team
