No doubt when most of you read the title you will be what the hell is he smoking but you don’t need to be a player to get a ring. CP3 is probably in his last season as a player. Would be miraculous if he managed a ring next season but realistically that is highly unlikely. The move to the Spurs is an intriguing one as he has forgone the opportunity to ring chase with a contender, instead to focus on being a mentor like role. As a player the opportunity for a ring is gone. However in a coaching capacity he may yet get one.

I am thinking the move to the Spurs is not a short term one, but rather a long term strategic one to move into a coaching career post playing career. Spend a year playing with the group helping them develop and building a great relationship with them, then seamlessly slide into an assistant coaching role. If you are just starting your coaching journey, no better place to be than with a legend like Pop, and also having a generational talent like Wemby and a bunch of young eager players to mould into a championship team, you might finally get that ring.
